Owing to the strenuous efforts of Punjab government to boost industrialization in the state, the Doaba region would soon emerge as the Maize processing hub of the state as ‘Sukhjit Mega Food Park’ was all set to become operational by end of current fiscal. The park having capacity of processing more than 2 lakh ton of maize annually was being set up over 55 acres of land at village Rehana Jattan near Phagwara by business giant Sukhjit Starch mill, which was the oldest agro food processing industry in the state carrying its operations since 1943. The park, coming up on scientific lines, was equipped with state of the art machinery to cater the processing of 600 tons of maize daily. The park aims at creating a huge demand of maize, a very low water intensive crop that would help in breaking wheat paddy cycle in the state thereby checking the depletion of water table on one hand and saving the environment by checking pollution caused through paddy straw burning on the other.Divulging more details, the Director of Park Mr. Bhavdeep Sardana, accompanied by Mr. Dhiraj Sardana, said that the project was in its advance stage of commissioning and was expected to commence its operations by last quarter of the current financial year. He said that besides creating affordable infrastructure for the food processing industry, the park would also act as a catalyst for facilitating direct procurement of various crops including perishables from farmers to benefit them. Mr. Sardana said that the park would also have a state of the art cold chain to enhance the shelf life of perishable produce of farmers and three ultra modren silos with storage capacity of around 60,000 tons to store the produce of farmers adding that they have set up three primary procurement centres at village Mahuwal in Jalandhar, Dheron in Hoshiarpur and Ballan Manjhpur in Amritsar for facilitating the farmers to sell their produce and subsequently ensuring its warehouse.

Hailing the Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh for creating an investor friendly environment in the state, the Entrepreneur said that due to path breaking initiatives taken by the state government, Punjab was witnessing tremendous industrial growth adding that with the constant support of Punjab government the smooth execution of this project has been possible. He said that the out of box initiatives by Punjab government like ease of doing Business coupled with single window in form of Invest Punjab was proving to be a boon for the entrepreneurs in the state. Mr. Sardana said that it was a matter of great pride and satisfaction for the industrialists that the Punjab government was giving red carpet welcome to them by giving them extra benefits and top priority for setting up their ventures in the state.Describing the Punjab government as progressive, dynamic and transparent government with the thrust on comprehensive growth of state, the industrialist said that the Captains of Industry were very happy as this government has turned out to be their partners in growth and prosperity by facilitating them. He said that the pro-active industrial policy of the state government coupled with industrial friendly environment has resulted in hurdle free permissions and operations for the industrialists. Mr. Sardana said that the net result was that Punjab’s economy has been put on the orbit of high growth trajectory and the state was witnessing tremendous growth in industrial sector.Lauding the state government for organizing Progressive Punjab Investors Summit- 2019 to be organized at Mohali from December 5th and 6th, the Entrepreneur hoped that the summit would be a milestone in exploring the tremendous business potential in state, besides creating synergy between Punjab and investors, for pushing industrialization on fast track.
