Under the guidance of Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla, specialists of Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital are running a pilot project under Cancer Prevention Programme for the last eight months. As per this programme special screening has been done against cancer at 16000 households in Sangrur and Bhawanigarh by team of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Sangrur. Under this programme a 'Cancer Walk' organized at Sangrur today. Cabinet Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla flagged this walk which is carried out from Government Senior Secondary Smart School (Girls) to Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. A large number of students of 10th, 11th and 12th standard of government and private schools have participated in this walk. Cancer specialists of Tata hospital and the hygiene team from Delhi have made students aware against cancer.While addressing the students, Mr. Singla said that a team of cancer specialists of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Sangrur is carried out a campaign to diagnose cancer at early stage and ensuring free treatment in the case of cancer detection. He said that around Rs. 2 Cr. has been raised for this humble work under CSR and it would cost around Rs 10 Cr. to bring the entire constituency under this programme. He is approaching to private companies and social organizations for this purpose, Mr. Singla added.
The Cabinet Minister said that about 90 percent of the patients getting treatment at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital free of cost, because of special discount given at various types of drugs. Apart from this, there is facility of special exemption for treatment on behalf of Tata Hospital and cashless treatment of up to Rs 1.5 lakhs under the Chief Minister's Cancer Relief Fund Scheme. Therefore, most of the patients do not have to pay anything for advanced treatment of this ailment.Meanwhile, Project Coordinator, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital Mr. T Ambumani thanked the Punjab Government and Cabinet Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla for this initiative and lauded the efforts of Mr. Vijay Inder Singla for establishing Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital in Sangrur, which is proving a boon for people of Malwa belt.Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghanshyam Thori said that cancer patient can get free treatment up to 1.5 lakhs from empanelled government and private hospitals under Chief Minister's Cancer Relief Fund Scheme. Meanwhile, Officer from HDFC Mr. Vanit Arora ensured the contribution on behalf of the bank in future for such initiatives.On the occasion, hospital specialists and thousands of students carried out a walk for cancer awareness from Government Senior Secondary School to Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital under the leadership of Cabinet Minister Mr. Vijay Inder Singla and Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghanshyam Thori.
