PCPNDT Act: Sensitization programme concludes at Shopian

As a part of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign in the district, a daylong sensitisation programme was organised for Supervisors and Anganwari Workers of ICDS project Shopian.As many as 50 Anganwari workers and 10 supervisors participated in the programme.Resource persons from Health and Social Welfare Department including Dy. CMO Dr. Rubina Maqbool, District Health Officer Dr. Ruqiya Rasool, Woman Welfare Officer Mohasina Mukhtar, District Coordinators Mehvish Yaqoob and Saima Khurshid sensitised the participants about  provisions of Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Technique (Prohibition & Regulation) Act and various aspects of pre and post-natal health issues of mother and child.Speaking on the occasion, WWO Mohasina Mukhtar informed that the Act prohibits all sorts of advertisements related to sex determination and makes abetment to abortion a criminal offence. She added that it’s mandatory for all such diagnostic labs which perform prenatal diagnostic tests to get registered with health department and to maintain record for two years for scrutiny by designated authorities.Earlier, DSWO Shopian (Nodal Officer BBBP) Mohammad Shafait called upon the participants to work in close coordination with ASHAs for timely delivery of ICDS and health services to pregnant ladies and lactating mothers.The participants were also provided IEC material on PCPNDT Act, importance of girl child, pre and postnatal health problems of mother and baby and immunisation schedules.
