Days after the 18-hour-long snowfall wreaked havoc in Kashmir Valley, the government on Monday stated that the priority to restore the power supply and to clear the roads was fixed in light of the requirement and importance.Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Choudhary told the wire service –Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the electricity after the moderate to heavy snowfall on Thursday was restored first in Old city areas of Srinagar. “Many areas including Habba Kadal, Fateh Kadal, and others received electricity on the first day of the snowfall. Srinagar has a normal requirement of 450 Mega Watts and 250 MWs were restored on the first day (Friday),” he said.“On Sunday evening, electricity was restored in all the areas across Srinagar barring two places including Shalteng and Bakhshipora where a huge snag was developed, which was being restored till late evening. The electricity in these areas were restored on Sunday evening. At present, all the areas across Srinagar have been restored,” he said. He further informed that the priority was set to clear main roads first, following which health care and clearing snow from lanes and bi-lanes was fixed, adding that unlike previous years, the priority was fixed in light of the requirement and importance.DC told KNO that the roads including lanes and bi-lanes have been cleared across Srinagar and people have been appreciating the role played by the administration.“We tried our level best to come up to the expectations of people,” he said. However, DC Srinagar expressed grief over the death of a PDD employee, who died in during snowfall in Srinagar on Thursday. “The district administration equally share the pain of the bereaved family,” he said.
