As the transporters continued to observe spontaneous shutdown since August 5, the public transport appeared in the main roads of Srinagar especially in the commercial Hub Lal Chowk while some of the shops in the district too remained open throughout the day on Monday.A few mini buses, Tata Sumos and other public vehicles were seen ferrying the passengers in the commercial Hub Lal Chowk today after the gap of nearly 100 days.Eye-witnesses told the wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that they had to walk kilometers to reach their destination in absence of the public traffic but the functioning of public vehicles again has provided a sigh of relief to them. They said that it was for the first time that the public vehicles especially mini busses were seen ferrying passengers in Srinagar after the spontaneous shutdown begin in Kashmir to protest against the repealing of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status (Article 370) and bifurcated the erstwhile State into two Union Territories. The shops and other business establishments also remained open in few of the areas in Srinagar. The markets across Kashmir were only opening for few hours in the morning, considered as the ‘morning deal’.The markets start opening gradually in Srinagar and other districts after the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status. However, many of the shops in different areas remained open throughout the day while as the street vendors continued to install their stalls at different places especially from TRC to Batamaloo road stretch, eye-witnesses told KNO.The shoppers too were seen in large number, buying essentials especially the winter stock following the season’s first snowfall in Kashmir on last Thursday that brought down the temperature in Kashmir.
