Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary Sunday visited Chatti Padshahi gurdwara at Rainawari to review the arrangements made for the founder of Sikhism and first Sikh leader Guru Nanak Dev Ji's 550th birth anniversary on November 12.Among other senior officers, the Deputy Commissioner was flanked by Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, (SMC) Khurshid Ahmad Sanai.The DC while taking an on-the-spot review of arrangements at the gurdwara - where thousands of devotees from Srinagar and other districts are expected to join the celebrations - directed all concerned departments to ensure all arrangements are finalised so that the festival is celebrated in its full colour.The DC instructed for ensuring hassle-free traffic and parking arrangements and uninterrupted supplies of power and drinking water and directed the concerned departments to ensure sanitation and immediate repairing of defunct lights in and around the gurdwara.
The DC also directed the concerned department to provide required food-grains to the gurudwara langar offering free food to devotees on the occasion. He also directed for setting up a medical camp with a dedicated ambulance with paramedic staff at the gurudwara.Later, the DC instructed the SRTC to make adequate number of buses available so that devotees face no inconvenience traveling to Chatti Padshahi.Senior officers from all concerned departments from were present on the occasion. Members of Shiromani Gurudwara Parbandhak Committee Srinagar who were also present thanked the DC for prompt action on their requests in regard to the occasion of Guru Purab.Dr Shahid said the district administration is keen on making the Guru Purab celebrations a memorable occasion and is looking forward to provide all possible support in that regard.Pertinently, Guru Purab marks birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji celebrated by Sikhs across the world. The Chatti Padshahi gurudwara at Rainawari sees the largest gathering of Sikh devotees on the occasion in Srinagar.
