With a view to improving the financial status of the dairy farmers and increase the genetic potential of cows in Punjab, the state government had set up an advanced embryo transfer centre of international standards at Patiala. Emphasis would be laid to make use of the embryo transfer technology on a commercial scale to boost the growth of dairy and achieve the quantum jump in the milk production in the state.Stating this here today, a spokesperson of Animal Husbandry Department lauded the role of Embryo Transfer Center Patiala for having done a commendable job for improving the breed of the cattle. Up to 35% conception rate has been achieved through the highly advanced embryo transfer technology. The state government under the able guidance of Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh has chalked out an extensive plan to ensure genetic improvement in the cattle in Punjab to enhance milk yield. Recently 33 HF calves (18 male and 15 female) are born by transfer of imported embryos in recipient cows. These genetically superior male calves will strengthen the semen banks of Punjab which will start providing high quality semen of these genetically superior male calves for use to farmers soon.

Presently the dairy farmers possess cows giving 10-15 kg of milk daily but to improve the milk production, the Punjab Livestock Board has imported “high quality semen” from advanced countries to improve cattle breeds in the state and ensure higher milk yield. The imported semen doses would help cows produce dual breed offspring and the high quality cattle produced through this technique would be able to deliver 7,000 to 8,000 liters per lactation. The imported semen doses would also help in producing high quality bulls, which would further enable improvement in the breed of cows. In order to facilitate the farmers adopting dairy farming, the state government has also extended all technical and financial support to them in their highly lucrative venture. Recently Punjab Animal Husbandry Minister Mr. Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa visited the center and lauded the role of Embryo Transfer Center (Rauni) Patiala.
