To commemorate the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Government College for Women Parade is organising a series of events to pay homage to the saintly and prophetic Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji. The celebrations commenced on 4th November under the aegis of Higher Education Department with lot of fanfare and showcased the philosophy and teachings of Guru Nanak Devji. The events would continue till November 8, 2019.The inaugural function was attended by eminent personalities and educationists who deliberated upon the life and teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.The guests were given a warm welcome by Prof. Hans Raj and senior faculty members of the college. The welcome speech was delivered by Prof. Ganjit Singh Department of Botany.The guest speakers that included Dr. Baljeet Kour, HoD Department of Punjabi, University of Jammu gave the introductory lecture highlighting the important events in the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.S. Fateh Singh Ji, General Secretary, District Gurudawara Prabhandak Committee threw light on the preaching of Guru Nanak Dev Ji and also quoted Guru Ji's hymns and couplets. Dr, Pritam Singh from Department of Punjabi, university of Jammu, emphasized upon the relevance of teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in the present scenario.S. Harmeet Singh, Sikh Panth Pracharak related the contemporary issues and their solutions as per the philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.The programme was attended by faculty members and students of the college. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Preet Pal Kour Department of Zoology.A peace rally was organized by the staff and students of the college on the second day today. The students and the staff participated enthusiastically in the rally. Shabad Kirtan was performed by students. A documentary on the life of saintly Guru Nanak Dev Ji was screened for the students to spread the message of his teaching in the society.
