Lieutenant Governor, Girish Chandra Murmu, today said that good governance and efficient administration are vital for hassle-free and smooth public service delivery mechanism. He also said that a well-defined citizen’s charter and viable grievance redressal mechanism are the cornerstones of a welfare administration.Lt Governor made these remarks in a meeting he chaired here to review the overall developmental scenario of the Baramulla district. This was his first official visit to the district after assuming the office of Lieutenant Governor of the newly created Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan, IG Kashmir S P Pani, District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr G N Itoo, DIG North Kashmir, SSPs of police districts of Baramulla and Sopore, ADCs, heads of various departments, district and sectoral officers and other concerned functionaries.While appreciating the role of district administration for achieving various set targets under Aspirational Districts Programme, Lt Governor assured every possible support and assistance in taking the district to the new heights of development. He said that every effort shall be made to develop Baramulla on all indicators of development and prosperity. He emphasized upon the concerned officers to work with added zeal and zest so that the district becomes one of the best aspirational districts of the country.

On the occasion, Murmu announced additional Rs 5 crore for village level works identified under ‘Back to Village’ programme. He also announced Rs 50 lakh for the upgradation of auditorium in Sheerwani Hall besides announcing a new building in SSP Office Sopore.He also announced that a Physical Education Training College shall be established in Baramulla so that youth get a proper platform to channelize their potential.During the meeting, Lieutenant Governor also took a detailed stock of winter preparedness by the district administration. He directed the concerned authorities to put in place a viable winter preparedness mechanism so that the people do not face any inconvenience. He also directed the officers to remain in touch with the people at the grassroots so that genuine concerns of the people are addressed properly. Moreover, he said that every possible mechanism shall be explored to upgrade infrastructure especially in power sector so that uninterrupted supply of services is ensured.On the occasion, DDC Baramulla briefed the Lieutenant Governor about progress achieved under various sectors in the district.Lieutenant Governor was informed that the district Baramulla, owing to its favourable conditions produces about 75% of total apple production of the valley. It was said that 750 apple growers have been registered under the recently launched Market Intervention Scheme (MIS).The meeting was also informed about the progress made in tourism, health, education, PDD, PHE and other vital sectors.DDC Baramulla also appraised the Lieutenant Governor about various issues and demands including establishment of another Trauma Centre in the district and construction of additional bunkers in border areas to which Lieutenant Governor assured that all the projected demands shall be looked into for their timely redressal.
