Principal Secretary Animal Sheep and Fisheries and Transport Department, Dr Asghar Hassan Samoon today chaired a meeting to take stock of transport facilities available for  export of fruit from valley to outside.The meeting was informed that during the last three months 588123 MTs of fresh fruits have been transported out of the Kashmir valley in  41,672 trucks.The meeting was attended by IGP Traffic Alok Kumar, Divisional Manager Food Corporation of India P H Verma, Manager NAFED A N Arora, MD SRTC Dr Owais  Ahmed, RTO Kashmir Akramullah Tak, SSP Traffic Rural Muzafar Ahmed Shah, other officials of horticulture, FCS&CA and other allied departments. Transport Commissioner S P  Vaid, Deputy Commissioners and officers of transport and horticulture from all districts of Kashmir and Jammu participated in the meeting via vide conferencing.Representatives of  Fruit Growers unions of Kulgam, Shopian, Anantnag, Sopore, Baramulla, Charari Sharief, Pulwama and Parimpora were also present in the meeting.Giving breakup of the  transportation of the last three months, the meeting was informed that 66492 MTs of fruits were transported in 5070 trucks in August this year. Similarly 11837 trucks carried  164072.66 MTs of fruit in September and 357558 .30 MTs of fruit were carried in 24765 trucks till 20th October. During the meeting, Dr Samoon discussed about the availability of  transport for carrying the fruit from different parts of valley to outside.He also directed the officers to ensure truckers adhere to the government fixed freight rate for transportation  of fruit within J&K and outside.Dr Samoon also stressed on the traffic department officials to facilitate the movement of fruit laden trucks on highways besides coordinating with  the officials of Horticulture so that the procurement of fruits through NAFED MIS are also transported in a hassle free manner.
