The Cooperation and Jails Minister, Punjab,  Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa today laid the foundation stone of a solid waste project near Kalanaur which would come up at a cost of Rs. 1 crore. The minister said that the project would entail preparation of fertilizers from the waste which would spell economic boom for the region.Interacting with the mediapersons, S. Randhawa said that the Punjab Government is undertaking development centric works worth crores at Dera Baba Nanak in connection with the 550th Prakash Purb of Sahib Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji which would result in the historical town emerging as developmental hub. He also said that the 57 schools between Dera Baba Nanak and Kalanaur would be provided with the State of the Art facilities. A passport office would also be opened at Dera Baba Nanak or Kalanaur for the ease of public.The minister further divulged that the solid waste project would benefit the agricultural sector as well as encourage the organic farming. Exhorting the gathering to undertake joint efforts for saving water and environment form pollution and make villages the epicentres of development by mutual coordination, S. Randhawa also appealed to the people to desist from stubble burning as the paddy harvesting season is going on. He advised them to sow wheat by mixing the stubble in the soil. This would maintain the productive capacity of the soil besides coming in handy to save the environment.

S. Randhawa said that the prakash purb celebrations would begin from Sultanpur Lodhi courtesy Punjab Government and these would culminate in November, 2020. Calling the opening of Sri Kartarpur Sahib Corridor on the eve of celebrations a historical occasion, he said that the State Government would not leave any stone unturned in making these celebrations, memorable and the District Administration has been given directions to this effect foreseeing the expected large number of sangat at Dera Baba Nanak. He also disclosed that Dera Baba Nanak is being accorded a beautified look.Detailing further, the minister said that the preparations concerning Dera Baba Nanak Utsav from 8th-11th November are going on full swing with adequate arrangements being made with regard to the stay, langar, and parking. A tent city for 5000 sangat and a huge pandal for 30000 sangat is also coming up. During the utsav, literary, academic functions would lend spiritual colour to the atmosphere.Among other dignitaries present on the occasion included the ADC (Development) Mr. Ranbir Singh Moodhal, Naib Tehsildar Jobanpreet Kaur, Chairperson Block Samiti Kalanaur Snehlata, BDPO Gurjit Singh and SHO Amandeep Singh Randhawa.
