A three days exhibition “”NAYAAB” was inaugurated in the Department of Lifelong Learning of the Guru Nanak Dev University. Prof.(Dr.) Shweta Shenoy, Head, GNDU-MYAS Department of Sports Science and Medicine inaugurated the exhibition. Prof. (Dr.) Saroj Bala, Director of the department did the floral welcome to the chief guest followed by the lightening of the lamp. The purpose of the exhibition is to display and popularize the skills of the students which they learn during their course of study.Prof. Dr.Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Vice Chancellor was the guest of honour in the inauguration function. He showed keen interest in the articles made by students and appreciated their efforts. He was of the view that the students should be encouraged to become the entrepreneurs and also sell their items time to time. He stressed upon the spread of awareness about the traditional art and craft taught to the students in the villages so that more students can take up the courses run by the department.Prof.(Dr.) Shweta Shenoy appreciated the efforts of the students. She said that students who are making the items should adopt different ways to take the orders from the public so that they can earn during learning. She showed very keen interest in the articles designed by the students and suggested to over extend the efforts of the students. She interacted and congratulated the students as well as the teachers for their wonderful display.
Prof. (Dr.) Saroj Bala, Director apprised the guests about the efforts of the department for uplifting the skills of the students. She said that the department is taking up great initiatives to organize the short term training programmes as well as certificate/diploma courses throughout the year so that maximum students from the villages can be benefited. She said that they learn different types of surface ornamentation techniques such as embroidery (Phulkari, Chikankari, Kashmiri, Kutch of Gujarat etc.), Tie-n-Dye, Baatik, Stencil Printing, Block Printing, Weaving, Crocheting etc. are used to make different articles. By using these methods, they also make beautiful articles like Bedsheets, Cushion Covers, Coasters, Salwar Kameez, Saris etc.She made the guests aware that the students of cosmetology are groomed to learn different techniques like makeup, hair care, skin care, rebonding, nail art, mehandi etc. Their skills are further polished by organising workshops and seminars. Furthermore, the students are encouraged to participate in awareness programmes like plantation and cleanliness drive. The special feature of the department is to conduct talent hunt programmes evey year. After getting so much practical knowledge, students show their creativity and art to meet the needs of the market for the self employment. The exhibition will remain open for three days i.e. from 22nd October till 24th October during 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM.Prof. (Dr.) Karanjit Singh Kahlon, Registrar, Prof. (Dr.) Hardeep Singh, Dean Student Welfare, Prof. Maninder Lal Singh, Mrs. Tejpal Kaur, Mrs. Paramjit Kaur, Mrs. Devika Kumari, Mrs. Anu Chawla, Mrs. Aanchal Uppal, Mrs. Meenakshi Sharma, Ms. Suchita and all the students were present in the exhibition.
