Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma today felicitated 39 Jawans of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) for their stellar role during the rescue and relief operations carried out in the aftermath of floods.In a simple and the impressive function held here today, the Deputy Commissioner along with PAP ADGP Mr Kuldeep Singh said that the Punjabis in particular and the residents of the flood-ravaged villages of Jalandhar would ever indebted to these brave hearts for saving several precious lives in the operation.He said that ever since the warning of floods was there, SDRF were roped in to save the precious lives of people. He said that three teams of SDRF, along with four companies of NDRF, four columns of Indian Army were pressed into service for saving the lives of children.The Deputy Commissioner said despite of the vagaries of weather and hostile circumstances these soldiers safely evacuated the people in Lohian and did a commendable job there. He said that these brave soldiers gave a healing touch to the marooned villagers in Lohian. He said that the boats of SDRF also distributed relief material in the flood-ravaged villages.The Deputy Commissioner said that these boats acted as mobile relief centres from where the teams of Doctors, Veterinary officers, Food and Civil Supplies distributed Food, Medicine, Fodder for animals and other relief material to the people.He said that the people of Jalandhar would ever remember these brave hearts for their valiant deeds and humanitarian act. He on behalf of all the Jalandhar residents felicitated the Jawans with a token of love.On the occasion, Inspector-General of Police Mr MF Faruqi and Mr Jaskaran Singh, Deputy Inspector General of Police Mr SK Kalia, Assistant Commissioner Mr Warjeet Walia and others were present.
