Principal Secretary Alok Shekhar on Monday reviewed the activities carried out by the district administration under anti stubble burning campaign  and asked the officers to intensify the activities for ensuring clean environment by making the people aware about the ill effects of the paddy stubble burning in the villages.Presiding over a meeting, Mr Shekhar said that the Punjab government is making strenuous efforts to eliminate the Stubble burning from the state which creates harmful gases and poses a serious danger to human health and environment.He said that the Punjab government led by the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been providing ultra-modern equipment on heavy subsidies for effective paddy Stubble management under various programs and committed to wipe out stubble burning menace from the State.In the meeting, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma said that the departments of Agriculture and farmers’ welfare, PPCB, Department of Co-operative societies, rural development and panchayats, education and others have already initiated awareness activities on war foot level in the villages through Kisan Melas, awareness rallies, public meetings, seminars, public announcements, hi-tech awareness vans, honouring progressive farmers who shunned the stubble burning, pamphlets and posters or other way and sensitizing the farmers especially.He said that till date, only 58 incidents of stubble burning have been reported in the district and assured Principal Secretary that district administration will leave no stone unturned to make the environment clean.Later Principal Secretary lauded the efforts of the administration and said that the reduction of cases this year, show hard work of the officers.Prominent amongst others present in the meeting included Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates Mr Amit Kumar, Mr Rahul Sindhu, Mr Sanjiv Sharma, DEO Secondary Mr Harinder Pal Singh, DDPO Mr Iqbaljeet Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer Dr Nazar Singh, KVK Deputy Director Dr Kuldeep Singh, Agriculture Officer Dr Naresh Gulati, PPCB Executive Engineer Mr Arun Kakkar and others were present.
