Jammu and Kashmir police on Monday said that it will hand over the body of slain militant killed in the recent Ganderbal encounter to the family if the DNA samples match after cross examination.“We are waiting for the final DNA report. If the report matches with family that has claimed the body of the slain militants killed in the Ganderbal encounter on September 27 and September 30,” Additional Director General of Police J&K, Law and Order/ security, Munir Khan told wire service—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).He said that so far DNA report has not so far been received. “Let the report come, if it matches with the family and the slain militant, we will immediately handover the body to the family,” Khan said. Two unidentified militants were killed in Ganderbal encounter on September 27 and September 30. A family from Warpora, Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district staged a protest in Srinagar claiming that one of the slain militant was their son Qamarudin, who had disappeared in April 2018 and since then his whereabouts were not known.According to KNO, the family members also urged the administration to handover the body of their son Qamar-ud-Din as they had identified him through a photograph shown to them by Ganderbal police. They had stated that since they had already identified their son through the photograph, there was no need to wait for DNA report. However, police is adamant that until DNA report comes and the same matches with the samples taken from the family, body can’t be handed over the family members.  (KNO)
