MC Kharar Launches Pilot Project To Collect Batteries And Cells

With a aim to eliminate single used plastic, Municipal Council Kharar has launched campaign to eliminate Plastic Carry Bags from the Kharar city. Under this initiative awareness rally was organized at Main Bazar Kharar, in which Mr. Kulbir Singh Brar-Executive Officer Kharar, Mrs. Anju Chander President-MC Kharar, several municipal councilors of Kharar city included Hardarshanhjit Singh, Balbir Dhaka and Gurpreet Singh were participated. The representatives from ICICI bank and IDBI bank who have sponsored cotton and cloth bags have also walked in the main bazaar with MC authorities and distributed 3800 cotton/recyclable bags to the shoppers.During this awareness drive, EO Kharar has also requested the general public to make pledge not to use plastic carry bags while shopping instead bring their own jute/cotton bags. The President MC Kharar Mrs. Anju Chander emphasized upon to co-operate with MC Kharar to make city neat and clean in true spirit. The authorities have also launched a unique pilot project to collect old household batteries and cells in the specially designed and installed collection bins.Main Pivotal of this drive, Mr. Gurpreet Singh, Senior Manager- PMIDC has said the old batteries and cell from electronic devices such as toys, clocks, remote control, mobile etc contains harmful metals, which should not be mixed with regular municipal waste. With the objective of collecting the batteries separately, residents are encouraged to bring old household batteries and deposit in these bins located throughout the city. The collected batteries and cell will be disposed-off as per the safe guidelines. The success of the pilot project will provide clean and safe environment to the residents.
