A two day orientation and consultation programme on ‘Implementation of Juvenile Justice Act 2015’ (Opportunities and challenges for Children in J&K) concluded here today.The programme was organized by Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of J&K under the guidance of Juvenile Justice Committee, Supreme Court of India in collaboration with the administration and supported by UNICEF.The event was chaired by Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur, Member, Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of J&K.Member Secretary, Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of J&K (Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar), Abdul Rashid Malik conducted the proceedings of the programme.Professor Ved Kumari, Department of Law, University of Delhi and Bharti Ali- Co-founder, Haq centre for Child Rights, New Delhi were the resource persons for the two day long programme.Speaking on the occasion, Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur highlighted the objective of the programme saying that such interactions do make a difference and hoped to witness a positive change through on ground implementation of the discussions and result oriented output thereafter.He appreciated Member Secretary, Juvenile Justice Committee, High Court of J&K, and the organizers for holding a programme for sensitizing the concerned on various characteristics of Juvenile Justice.Abdul Rashid Malik stated that the purpose of the Orientation and Consultation Programme is to create a proper understanding of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 and other important aspects pertaining to Juvenile Justice. He thanked the resource persons for guiding the participants using their years of experience and expertise in their respective fields.On the second day, the resource persons threw light on important topics with special focus on critical issues related to Child Care Institutional Reforms in Jammu and Kashmir, Adoption under JJ Act 2015 and interplay between JJA and POCSO Act 2012.Interactive session was also held where the resource persons answered the queries of the participants.Pertinently, the programme was inaugurated by Chief Justice, Jammu and Kashmir High Court, Justice Gita Mittal.Principal Magistrates and Members of Juvenile Justice Boards of Jammu, Chairpersons & Members of Child Welfare Committees and Child Welfare Officers of J&K Police attended the programme.
