DC Jammu reviews implementation of PC-PNDT Act

Deputy Commissioner Sushma Chauhan today reviewed implementation of Jammu and Kashmir Pre–Conception and Pre-Natal Sex determination Prohibition and Regulation (PNDT) Act, here at a meeting of District Advisory Committee (DAC).During the meeting, approval was given for renewal of registration of four ultrasound diagnostic centers/clinics/Imaging Centres, while applications were also approved for fresh registration.The DC, who is also Chairman of District Advisory Committee, issued strict directions to Chief Medical Officer to keep vigil on private ultra sound centres to check any violations of the PC & PNDT Act.She directed the CMO to ensure private centres prominently display the rate list for various diagnostic tests and warning against sex determination in at least three languages with pictorial signs. She asked for enhanced vigil on the clinics and to undertake regular inspections of their facilities. She also asked the CMO to submit a report on their conduct in the next DAC meeting.The DC further asked the committee to take necessary action in case of complaints filed against diagnostic centres for non-compliance of the Act. “The competent authority should cancel the registrations and publish public notice   for general awareness to desist people from visiting the erring centres” she added.It was informed in the meeting that currently there are   112 ultrasound diagnostic centers/clinics/Imaging Centres operational in Jammu district, of which, 22 are government and 90 are private.Among others the meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Danish Ayub Khan, Medical Superintendent, Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Dr Chander Parkash, Chief Planning Officer, Yoginder Katoch, District Social Welfare Officer, Ajay Salaan, Senior Paediatrician, K R Sangra and Senior Gynecologist, Atula Gupta.
