District Jail Jammu organised a function to commemorate the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Father of the Nation in which Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Gita Mittal, was the chief guest.The inmates of the Jail presented a colourful cultural bonanza on the occasion.The programme was witnessed by Justice Rajesh Bindal, Justice Sindhu Sharma, DGP Prisons V. K Singh, Former DGP Prisons Ashok Bhan, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Jammu, Vinod Chaterjee Koul, Principal Secretary to Chief Justice, Jawad Ahmed, IGP Prisons, Satish Khandare, IGP Jammu, Mukesh Singh, DIG JKR, Vivek Gupta, Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Sushma Chauhan, DIG Prisons, Dr M. S Lone, SSP Jammu, Tejinder Singh, Professor Sunanda Raina, Principal GMC and a large number of senior members from Judiciary, Police and civil administration besides jail inmates and staff.During the program, the teachings of Mahatma Gandhi were displayed along with other videos to propagate the message of Father of the Nation. Various cultural items like bhajans, folk songs, dances were presented by the inmates including female inmates.Justice Gita Mittal appreciated the efforts made by the jail authorities for welfare of the prisoners. She highlighted the contribution of Gandhiji towards the Nation.Earlier, the Chief Justice inaugurated new modern interview room and the Prison Inmate Calling System. During inauguration of the calling system, one under trial Prisoner Jatan R/O Malapuram, Kerala made a call to his wife in Kerala.Pertinently, modern interview rooms are being constructed in all jails of J&K and Prison Inmate Calling System is also being introduced in the Central Jails Jammu and Srinagar.Superintendent District Jail, Jammu in his welcome address, highlighted various steps being taken up in the Prisons for welfare of the inmates adding that the department is making efforts towards providing better facilities and training opportunities to the inmates.
