Principal Secretary Animal/Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Transport Departments, Dr Asghar Hassan Samoon today had an extensive tour of Kupwara District to review the pace of progress of Animal/Sheep Husbandry sectors at ground level.He was accompanied by Director, Animal Husbandry Purnima Mital, CAHO Dr K.M Kirmani, District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr Rafiq, and other officers of concerned departments.During the visit, Samoon inaugurated Sheep Extension Centre at Shatpora Kupwara, completed at a cost of Rs 30 lakhs under languishing projects scheme. He also inspected construction work of poultry hatchery at Gonipora Handwara, coming up at a cost of Rs 2.29 crore. He directed the concerned executing agency to speed up the pace of work and ensure timely completion of the hatchery.The Principal Secretary laid foundation stone of veterinary polyclinic at Cherkoot Lolab. Rs 36 Lakhs are being expended on the execution of the clinic and will be completed within one year under Rurban Mission.Samoon visited Khumriyal and inspected progress of Sheep Units there these units and 01 Ram was given to the progressive farmers of the area under Rurban Mission to increase their socio-economic standard. He also visited dairy farm at Batergam Kupwara which was established by a lady progressive farmer to generate livelihood for her family. She has established the farm by the support of Animal Husbandry Department. At a separate function Samoon distributed 96 woollen blankets among Progressive Chopans of Kupwara as an incentive. He also distributed 20 medicine kits among progressive breeders of the district.Samoon while interacting with the farmers, stressed upon them to take advantage of new schemes being introduced by the government to rejuvenate the Sheep and Animal Husbandry sectors. He said that these sectors have vast potential to provide better economic backup to a larger extent, especially in rural and hilly areas.
