ULBs Across The State Organize ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ Sharamdaan Activities On Gandhi Jayanati : Brahm Mohindra

As a part of Swachhta Hi Sewa-Campaign, (which was started from 11th September, 2019 and will continue up to 27th October), all the Urban Local Bodies in Punjab organized Sharamdaan drives for collection of plastic on 2nd October to mark 150th  anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, The staff of ULBs , and other departments , participated in the drive with massive citizen Participation. It was disclosed by Mr. Brahm Mohindra, Local Bodies Minister.Divulging more on the kind of activities executed by the ULBs across the state, official spokesperson of the Local Bodies Department said that besides plastic collection Sharmdaan drives, "Say No to Plastic" awareness rallies by students were undertaken, Nookad Nataks/skits were played, seminars were organized. There was wholehearted participation of educational institutions, religious organizations, Vyapar Mandals, Market Associations, RWAs, transport Unions, Govt Departments, NGOs etc participated in the drive.He said that as a new initiative, Plog Run was organized in Amritsar and Mohali which started with Yoga exercises.  He said that in SAS Nagar Mohali, Mr .A. Venu Prasad Principal Secretary to Government of Punjab, Local Government Department flagged of the Plog Run from Shaheed Major Jasbir Singh park in Phase 3B1. Mr. Ajoy Sharma Chief Executive Officer, PMIDC & Mission Director Swachh Bharat Mission  Urban Punjab also participated in the drive.He said that MC Staff, staff of Shalby Hospital, Karyana Association, Members of Veopar Mandal, Senior Citizen Association, Students from Paragon, Gyan Jyoti and St Soldier School besides various Morning walkers and general public participated in the drive. A running commentary was made throughout the drive so as to motivate the participants and spread awareness among the public. An awareness rally on single use plastic was organized by schools in which more than 3000 students participated.  Another highlight was that a team of 70 staff of UIDAI in collaboration with MC Mohali under took a Sharamdan drive in phase 8 &10  and collected plastic .He said that in the spirit of the event special activities were also done in other towns as well. The spokesperson said that Municipal Corporation, Amritsar conducted a Mega Yoga event (participants approx 800), a Shanti March (participants approx 1000), floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhiji and A plog run (participants approx 1000). Thereafter besides promotion of clothes bags , awareness activities were executed with the help of NGOs (approx 500 participants). All the activities were attended by MP, Mr. Gurjeet Singh Aujla, MLA, Mr. Sunil Dutti, Mayor, Commissioner Corporation, Additional Commissioner, ADC (G,) SDMs, DEO secondary, NCC Volunteers and other district officials. The activities started from 5:30 in the morning to 9:30 for 4 hours and in total more than 3000 people participated.Likewise In MC Bathinda Swachhta Hi Sewa activities started from Rose Garden Bathinda. Finance Minister Mr. Manpreet Singh Badal, DC & SSP also participated in the event. Finance Minister personally participated in shramdaan at 12 locations across the city. 140 teams of volunteers were formed and are doing shramdaan in the city. Volunteers from NGOs, NSS, NDRF, Civil Defense, social clubs, Dera Saccha Sauda,  National Fertilisers Ltd, Ambuja Cement, RWAs, HPCL and many others participated. Similarly In Municipal Corporation, Moga Plastic collection  Shramdaan drive  was conducted in all 50 wards in association with all departments of Moga Administration, Citizen  and NGOs. All types of banned plastic collected and sent to Material Recovery Facility. MLA Moga Harjot Kamal, Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans inaugurated the programme of plastic Shramdaan.  There was massive citizen mobilization.In Municipal Tarn Taran Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran MLA Dr Dharambir Agnihotri, Mr. Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal ,Respected, ADC(G) Mr. Sandeep Kumar , GA, Mr. Hardeep Singh Dhaliwal , SDM Mr. Surinder singh Tarn Taran participated in the pledge' SAY NO TO SINGLE USE PLASTIC & PLASTIC CARRY BAGS'.In Municipal Corporation, Pathankot Plogging drive was undertaken by massive involvement of schools colleges, NGOs and citizen. In Mansa Plogging by school kids in all 27 wards of Mansa. The spokesperson said that employees from government departments, NGOs, Bar Associations, religious organizations and all MCs participated. Total participation Was around 3200 in Mansa.
