After completing the work of plugging the breaches on Dhussi Bandh along with river Satluj the district administration along with volunteers of Sant Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal today embarked the work of refilling 45 feet scoured pit created due to flow of water at village Jania.Initiating the work at Jania, the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr Varinder Kumar Sharma, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr Kulwant Singh and Baba Seechewal, said that this was a herculean task which was all the most important to further strengthen the newly constructed embankment. He said that due to heavy flow of water during the flood this scoured pit was created at the point where the breach took place. Mr. Sharma said that the sand that had came along with the river water in the fields of the farmers would be utilized to fill this scoured pit.The Deputy Commissioner said that the tractors and other machinery along with the volunteers of Baba Seechewal have been pumped in to accomplish this task. He said that the work would be completed very soon to ensure that fields of the farmers were free from sand and the embankment was further consolidated. Mr. Sharma expressed gratitude to Baba Seechewal for extending fulsome support and cooperation to the administration in this noble cause.It might be recalled that after massive efforts the 500 feet wide breach at village Jania Chahal village was today by Indian army, MNREGA workers, drainage department contractor’s labourers, skilled mechanics, Panchayats, volunteers from social and religious organisations including Sant Balbeer Singh Seechewal and others. The breach was plugged under the direct supervision of the Indian Army which constructed a ring of boulders besides parallel plugging the breaches with sand bags bandh. A total of three lakh sand bags, two lakh cubic feet boulders and 270 quintals of Steel wire was pumped in to fill the breach.
