A five-day regional 'Training Workshop on State Income and Related Aggregates' commenced on Monday here. The Workshop has been organised by Central Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, in collaboration with Economic and Statistical Organization of Punjab.Economic Adviser, Punjab Mr. M.L. Sharma and Additional Director General Central Statistics Office Mr. Naresh Kumar Sharma inaugurated the workshop by lighting a lamp. Besides hosting state Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Chattisgarh, West Bengal, Bihar and Uttrakhand are participating in the workshop.Welcoming the all participants, Mr. M.L. Sharma emphasized on the importance of such a workshop especially to updating the States about the latest guidelines and methods. The main focus of the workshop is how to calculate GSDP of different sectors of the economy and prepare states for new series of GDP. The motive of the workshop is to improve the quality and methodology of GSDP estimates, he added.Mr. Naresh Kumar Sharma said that the Workshop aims to provide the source data, methods and general guidelines to be adopted by the compilers for preparing the State Domestic Product estimates and District Domestic Product estimates. It will also train the participants on the ways to tackle the emerging challenges of data collection and analysis required for evidence based policy making.
