Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday said that the barring Jamia Masjid Srinagar, Friday congregational prayers were held across Kashmir in a most peaceful manner and there was no untoward incident anywhere barring two places Soura-Aanchar and Nigeen.Talking exclusively to wire-service Kashmir News Observer (KNO) Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Dr Haseeb Mughal said that there was no untoward incident anywhere in Srinagar barring Soura-Anchar and Nigeen areas. “Rest of the district remained peaceful except the fact that that there was no Friday prayers at one place (Jamia Masjid) only,” said Mughal.Eye-witnesses told KNO that Friday prayers were held in rest of the masjids and shrines across Kashmir including Hazratbal shrine. “This is for the seventh straight Friday that no congregational prayers were held at Jamia Masjid, Srinagar,” he said. Kashmir’s chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who would address people on Friday, continues to remain under house arrest since August 5 so has been the aged separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani.At least 50 mainstream political leaders also remain under house or preventive detention at Centaur sub-jail. National Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah was recently slapped with PSA and his Gupkar residence was turned into a sub jail.According to KNO correspondent, mild protests were held in Soura-Anchar and Nigeen areas of Srinagar post Friday prayers. “People staged protest at Soura and Nigee, but we used mild force to disperse the protestors,” a police official said. “The protests ended peacefully.” (KNO)
