Amid continuous lock-down in Kashmir, the world famous Dal Lake, situated in Srinagar is craving for the official attention. According to wire service Kashmir News Observer (KNO) the developmental works across Kashmir have come to halt following the abrogation of Article 370 and Jammu and Kashmir’s divisions into two Union Territories on August 05, 2019. Similarly, the de-weeding process initiated by the concerned officials in Dal Lake has also been stopped, thus deteriorated the situation of water body.The weeds, polythene, bottles and other things could be seen floating in the Dal Lake here, expressing deteriorating situation in world famous Dal Lake. Locals living in interiors of the Dal Lake told KNO, that the situation in the interiors of the Lake is worsening with each passing day as the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) has failed to continue the cleansing process to preserve the water body.Ali Muhammad, a Dal dweller told wire service Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the officials concerned have so far focused only on the front side of Dal Lake and have ignored it interiors.

He said the situation if continues would surely turn world famous Dal Lake into history. “Many of the local residents here are dependent on Dal Lake as it is sole livelihood for them.The Dal Lake attract tourists throughout the world therefore helps tourism players to earn their livelihood. The Dal Lake is presently in shambles and such a situation if continues will leave the tourism players to starvation,” Ali said.Earlier, the High Court (HC) had formulated a committee who were tasked to ensure the Dal Lake is prevented. The committee later directed the LAWDA to shift the Dal dwellers to other places in nine months for taking forward the cleansing mission of Dal Lake to preserve the water body. However, officials in LAWDA told wire service  KNO that the time frame set by the committee is not feasible as the dwellers are reluctant to shift to other places. They said such a situation has left LAWDA in dilemma and thus the work in the interiors has come to a halt, adding that they finding the solution to take both the matters along to ensure the world famous body is preserved.
