Principal Secretary Animal, Sheep and Fisheries Department Dr Asghar Samoon today stressed on the need of mega infrastructural setup for promotion of the livestock sector in J&K.He was speaking at a high level meeting here which was attended by Director Animal Husbandry Kashmir, Director Sheep Husbandry Kashmir, Director Fisheries, Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir and other officers of the department.The meeting was also attended by Director Animal Husbandry Jammu, Director Sheep Husbandry Jammu and other officers of the department through Videoconferencing. During the meeting, the officers highlighted the achievements of their respective departments in various central and state government funded projects.Dr Samoon asked for timely submission of utilization certificates (UCs) for smooth funding of the projects. He also asked the officers to maintain synergy with officials of other works executing agencies for completion of their projects within a stipulated time. Highlighting the importance of various mega proejcts like Daksum Sheep Breeding Farm, Dr Samoon called for early completion of infrastructure so that the high-quality imported sheep from Australia can be transferred to beneficiaries at the earliest. It is pertinent to mention that these high quality sheep can increase the mutton producing capacity of the J&K which will eventually help lakhs of people associated with the livestock sector.To bring more efficiency in the execution of works, he asked the officials to submit weekly progress reports about the works carried out in their respective departments.He also asked for increasing fodder development projects in various areas which can sufficiently cater to the livestock of various departmental farms.Dr Samoon also sought progress report of housing under central sponsored scheme for fishermen community.Director Fisheries informed the meeting about the progress made under the blue revolution scheme in various areas of J&K besides inviting unemployed entrepreneurs to setup their own income generating fish farms.
