In order to avoid any sort of mishap during the Sri Sidh Baba Sodal Fair, the district administration has decided to close two Railway crossings near the Sri Sidh Baba Sodal Temple besides slowing down the speed of trains crossing from within the city.A decision to this effect was taken during a meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma here at his office. During the meeting the Deputy Commissioner asked the Northern Railways to ensure that during the fair on September 11, 12 and 13 the Railway crossings at Ram Nagar and Chandan Nagar should remain closed so that any sort of untoward incident could be avoided. He said that the sole motive was to ensure safety and security of the people during the fair (mela). Mr. Sharma said that as huge footfall on devotees during the mela was there so ensuring the safety of people was top priority of the district administration. The Deputy Commissioner said that for the Railway crossings at Tanda Road and Sodal, the Railways must ensure dead slow speed for the trains moving on this track. He said that proper cautioning system with whistling must be ensured during the three days of mela. Likewise, Mr. Sharma said that adequate number of Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railways Police (GRP) personnel along with the Police personnel should be deployed at all the Railway crossings near the Sodal Temple. The Deputy Commissioner said that senior officers from the civil and Police administration would also be deployed to monitor the arrangements around the Railway track to ensure that no mishap takes place during the fair. “I will personally supervise the entire arrangements to ensure that safety of public is ensured”, he added. On the occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Ms. D Sudharvizhi, Station Superintendent Mr. RK Behl and other officers were also present.
