Jal Shakti Abhiyan : Sangrur bags 1st position in Punjab, 10th throughout country: Ghanshyam Thori

"The Jal Shakti Abhiyan is being transformed into a mass movement in Sangrur District in order to conserve the fast depleting ground water level with projects being undertaken in a planned way." Disclosing this here today, the Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori said that under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan campaign being run by the Union Government, 255 districts of the country including 20 from Punjab have been declared as Dark Zones.Divulging more, he said that the novel initiatives being undertaken to save the commodity as precious as water in 9 Blocks of the district include 3000 awareness camps, Renovation of more than 9000 ponds, Planting more than 6 lakh saplings, 50 water recharge pits, Conserving rain water, Making water of ponds fit for use, and Drip Irrigation. He further added that in view of the good performance under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, District Sangrur has placed at top spot in Punjab while countrywise it has bagged 10th position. The Deputy Commissioner also elaborated that the District Administration is making people aware about usage of water judiciously while at the same time keeping tabs on every activity on implementing the Jal Shakti Abhiyan in the district in an emphatic manner.
