DC visits flood prone areas in Kathua, emphasizes effective monitoring

Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Raghav Langer today conducted an extensive tour of the flood-prone areas of the district to take stock of the flood-like situation caused by recent incessant rains.DC was accompanied by ADC, Ghanshyam Singh Bali, Executive Engineer Flood Control, Engineers and other concerned officers.The DC visited various wards of Kathua, Nagri, Rajbagh, Pandori, Changran, Old Samba Kathua(OSK) road and other low lying, flood affected areas to assess the situation and to get the first-hand appraisal of the same.DC stressed upon the concerned officers to mobilize their men and machinery besides keeping them on alert to tackle with any kind of eventuality in the wake of monsoon season. He also called for close coordination between the departments to ensure timely rescue and rehabilitation as and when needed.Meanwhile, DC appealed the people not to be panic and remain vigilant, besides urging upon them to remain connected with the administration in case of any eventuality.He said that District Administration has geared up all the agencies for ensuring timely rescue and rehabilitation services to the people besides saving precious human lives and property.During inspection to the flood-prone areas, the DC directed Irrigation and Flood Control authorities to expedite the strengthening work on embankments in these areas so that the situation will remain under control. He stressed upon the concerned departments to remain vigilant in case of any eventually.

It was informed that 3 Dewatering pumps from Mechanical Instrument Construction Division (MICD) Jammu were pressed into service to clear water clogged areas besides under SDRF two dewatering pumps will be procured and placed with MC Kathua to augment their capacity to meet any kind of eventuality. It was also informed by the DC that round the clock control rooms have been established with helpline numbers for monitoring of the situation.
