The Punjab Tourism & Cultrual Affairs Minister Charanjit Singh Channi today officially inaugurated the construction work of Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial on the 80th martyrdom day of the great fighter. The Cabinet Minister was here to pay tributes to the great freedom fighter at the State Level function organized by the Punjab Government on the 80th martyrdom day of Shaheed Udham Singh.Interacting with the media persons on the sidelines of the function Mr. Channi said that Shaheed Udham Singh Memorial would come at Sunam-Bathinda highway in four acre land with the cost of Rs. 2.64 Crore which would be completed in a year. The Minister said that the design of the memorial is prepared by the Chief Architect Punjab, which includes statue of Shaheed Udham Singh, Open air theatre, landscaping with other ultra modern facilities.Paying homage to the martyr during a state level function, Cabinet Minister Mr. Channi threw light on the life and personality of Shaheed Udham Singh and said that the sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh can never be forgotten and the youth need to follow the ideology of the martyr.
‘The Punjabis have contributed the maximum in the freedom movement,’ added Channi.Mr. Channi criticising the previous SAD_BJP Government said that they just laid foundation stones but never started or completed any development work which made a mess of the financial situation of the state. ‘The present Punjab Government in the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has strengthened the financial position of the state and all promises are be fulfilled,’ added Channi.On the occasion District Congress Committee President Mr. Rajinder Singh Raja and Spokesperson Punjab Congress Mrs. Daman Thind Bajwa also paid tributes to the martyr.Mr. Charanjit Singh Channi and other dignitaries honoured the descendants of the martyr. Earlier Mr. Channi alongwith other dignitaries paid tributes to Shaheed udham Singh at martyrs memorial at Sports Stadium and inaugurated a blood donation camp orginsed by lions club.Amongst others prominent present on the occasion included Mr. Vikas Partap Singh Principal Secretary Tourism & Cultural Affairs Department, Mr. Malwinder Singh Jaggi Director, Deputy Commissioner Mr. Ghanshyam Thori, SSP Mr. Sandeep Garg.
