Terming the incidents of animal deaths in large number in villages near Mohali as most unfortunate, the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister, Punjab, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa today said that any proving of negligence on the part of his department would invite strictest possible action against those responsible. He also exhorted the cattle rearing farmers especially those running dairy farms to pay special attention to the feed they give to their animals.Mr. Bajwa also advised the cattle rearers to provide fodder as well as feed to their animals in accordance with the advice rendered by the experts from the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and desist from serving the leftover food of the hotels and dhabas (Roadside Eateries). He also emphasized that special care needs to be taken in respect of the animal fodder during the monsoon season for the fodder and other eatables catch fungus quickly during the period which can prove to be very detrimental to the health of the animals. The Director of the Animal Husbandry Department Dr. Inderjit Singh advised the farmers engaged in rearing of cattle to take care in protecting the fodder and feed of the animals from moisture because the moisture causes ‘Micotoxin’ in the feed thus making it harmful for the health of animals. He also added that the food which is not considered fit for human consumption is often fed to the animals and hens which is totally uncalled for. He further said that this infected and substandard food is especially disastrous for the health of buffalos. Divulging more, Dr. Inderjit Singh said that in order to prevent the toxic fungus the animals must be fed top quality feed, Room must be airy with spotlessly clean utensils being used for feeding the animals. It is imperative that the facilities for storing and transportation of the feed be top notch in order to ensure protection from moisture. He also advised the farmers to destroy the fodder and the feed completely if the same catches fungus in its entirety.
