It becomes moral duty of each and every civilised citizen to provide all possible help to the underprivileged and weaker sections of the society so that they could lead a respectable life. This was stated by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while addressing the annual function of Himgiri Kalayan Ashram, Vivekananda Hostel here today.The Chief Minister said that it is matter of happiness that NGOs and other social bodies are playing a pivotal role in ensuring socio-economic upliftment of under privileged and weaker sections of the society. The Himgiri Kalyan Asharm, established in 1985 at Shilli in Solan district has been rendering yeoman service for betterment of the vulnerable section. He said that several welfare programmes have been initiated by the Ashram for ameliorating the conditions of the poor.Jai Ram Thakur said that Ashram is running four hostels for boys at Solan, Chamba, Shimla and Rampur and one for girl's at Reckong Peo in Kinnaur district to facilitate over 100 students studying in these hostels. A new hostel and sports centre is coming up at Kwar village near Shimla, foundation stone of which was laid by him last year.He said that other organizations should draw inspiration from such NGOs and supplement the government’s efforts for upliftment of poor and deserving people. He said that no nation can progress without wholehearted cooperation of the NGOs.The Chief Minister said that the state government has provided about Rs. 25 crore to the poor and needy people for medical treatment and other urgent needs from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund during last one year. 

This has been possible due to the philanthropic endeavours of various organisations and individuals. He said the government is endeavouring to ensure socio-economic upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. He said state government would provide all possible help of the Ashram in order to felicitate the students.All India Executive Member of RSS Indresh Kumar while expressing concern over the discrimination in the name of caste, creed and sex in the society said that for a strong and vibrant society, it is essential that we come out of vice of casteism. He said India is emerging as a world power under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He added that today, India has emerged as sixth biggest economy of the world and is poised to become a super power.Speaker, HP Vidhan Sabha Dr. Rajiv Bindal said that the Kalyan Ashram came into existence in the year 1985 at Solan with five students. Several students of the Ashram have excelled in various fields. He said that the students of the Ashram are not only being provided academic education but stress is being laid on character building and inculcating the spirit of patriotism in them. He urged the people to contribute generously for the construction of hostel building of the Ashram at Shimla.Regional Organizing Secretary, Akhil Bhartiya Vanvasi Kalayan Ashram Bhagwan Sahay Sharma detailed various activities of the Ashram.Vice President, Himgiri Kalyan Ashram Dharampal Mahajan welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries.Managing Director, InfraProject Limited Gurugram Vinod Kumar Agarwal announced rupees one crore for construction of the building of Himgiri Kalyan Ashram Hostel at Shimla.Chairman-cum-Managing Director, SJVNL Nand Lal assured all possible help to the Kalyan Ashram from SJVN Limited. He also announced that SJVNL would provide Rs 50 lakh for construction work of the hostel. Mayor Kusum Sadrate, Deputy Mayor, Organizing Secretary, BJP Pawan Rana, HIMFED Chairman Ganesh Dutt, President Himgiri Kalyan Ashram Indira Gupta were present on the occasion among others.
