Mansa District Administration Goes Stricter With Ban On Plastic Bags, Dc Directs All Local Bodies To Conduct Surprise Raids Twice A Week

Mansa district administration is now going stricter with implementation on ban on usage of plastic carry bags in the district. To check sale and purchase of plastic bags, which have become biggest environmental hazard, all the municipal councils of district will soon be conducting surprise checks twice a week.Deputy Commissioner Mansa Mrs Apneet Riyait said this while presiding over the meeting of executive officers of various municipal councils and staff of local bodies department today. Discussing the urgency to curb use of plastic carry bags, she directed that all those not abiding by the government norms should be dealt with strictly. They should be challaned as well as penalized for sale and purchase of plastic carry bags. Besides this the municipal councils have been directed to conduct public announcements regarding the ban on plastic bag usage to create awareness among people.She also discussed the work going on handling municipal solid waste in the district under 3 D (3 dustbins) project. At Mansa, three material recycling factories have already come up where the waste collected from households is collected and segregated. At Budhlada and Bareta work is going on constructing similar MRF centers. Similarly, at Sardulgarh segregation of waste at household level has been started.Deputy Commissioner appealed residents of the district to segregate waste at their household level only before giving it to the waste collector. The garbage should be segregated into biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste. The waste such as leftovers of eatables should not be mixed with plastic bottles, wrappers etc.SDO Punjab Pollution Control Board Sukhdev Singh, EO Sardulgarh Vishaldeep, EO Mansa Rajpal Singh, EO Budhlada and Bareta Vijay Jindal, ETO Hiteshvir, Inspector Angrej Pal and others were present.
