47 Cases Of Dengue Larva Detected In City

Health Department Holds Training Program On Deadly Vector-Borne Disease.

In its drive against vector-borne diseases inthe city under, a joint team of the health department and Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) spotted 47 dengue larva cases in various localities of the city.Teams of anti-larva wing led by Mr Amit Kumar, Pawan Kumar, Raj Kumar, Rajwinder Singh, Daljeet Singh, Kulwinder Singh and others carried the inspection in Gandhi Camp, Railway Hospital, Qazi Mandi, Labour Colony, Gopal Nagar, Globe Colony, Gobind Nagar, Chandigarh Mohalla, Basti Danishmandan and Suraj Ganj .During the checking, the teams visited 597 houses, checked 170 air coolers and 713 waste containers. The larva mostly was found in desert coolers, flower pots, buckets and other water containers.
Besides, the health department held a training program in which District Epidemiologists Dr Satish Kumar and Dr Shobhna Bansal addressed the gathering to create awareness about the deadly vector-borne disease in its Civil Hospital. A separate team also visited district administrative complex and found dengue larva in one desert cooler. They said dengue was transmitted by the bite of aedes mosquito which usually targets in the day time. They said that severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscles, and joint pains are symptoms of the disease. Further, they added that aedes mosquito breeds in desert coolers, water storage containers, tyres, overhead tanks and many more places where rainwater collects or is stored.They motivated the gathering that all water storage containers should be kept covered, besides old tyres, broken pots, crockery should be removed. They advised the gathering to put insecticides, petrol and kerosene in coolers, containers etc once a week, which cannot be emptied or cleaned.
