The Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Chander Gaind visited the flood-prone areas falling in the Ferozepur district and reviewed the arrangements being made by the district administration to strengthen the vulnerable point in the areas along with river Satluj. Mr. Gaind visited 60 kilometer long levees starting from village Gidderpindi to Mamdot area.The Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by SDM Zira Mr. Narinder Singh, SDM Ferozepur City Mr. Amit Gupta and other officials started his inspection from Dhussi Bandh at village Gidderpindi, where he inspected the embankment made by the irrigation department. Residents of Laluwala village met with the deputy commissioner and apprised him about the poor condition of a Bandh, which fell under Railway's ambit. After receiving feedback from the villagers, the deputy commissioner on spot talked to the senior officials of the railways and asked them to strengthen the weak point adjoining Rail cum Road Bridge at Gidderpindi village.In the wake of the onset of monsoon, it is our duty to ensure the integrity of our levees on river Satluj to prevent any kind of floods, said, deputy commissioner. He said that the district administration must remain vigil so as to avoid any sort of untoward incident due to rain during the monsoon season.Mr. Gaind also directed the officials to strengthen flood prone sensitive places to minimize damage in the possibility of excess rain.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration would make adequate arrangements to meet any sort of situation in wake of the rainy season. He asked the officers to ensure that any work required for strengthening the vulnerable points along with the river were completed at the earliest. The deputy commissioner also had detailed interaction with the officers of the Irrigation and Drainage department regarding their proposals for these works.The Deputy Commissioner asked these officers to ensure these works were completed in a time bound manner. He said that no stone should be left unturned to evolve a foolproof mechanism for fortifying the weak points along with river Satluj so that people do not face any sort of inconvenience during the upcoming rainy season.Meanwhile, the deputy commissioner also interacted with the residents of villages situated on the bank of river Satluj and gave a hearing to their problems. He visited the village Mehmoodwala, Bhoopewala, Harike, Dinka, kasoke, Muthiyawala and villages near Hussaniwala border and Mamdot Area. He gave on spot instruction to the officials of the irrigation and drainage department to initiate the strengthening works immediately, wherever it required. Mr. Gaind clearly directed the officials to create a strong second line of defense against floods to avoid any kind of untoward situation in the district.The deputy commissioner also asked villagers to be vigil during monsoon season and keep a tab over the rising water level of river Satluj. He said that a control room will be set up by the district administration, which will keep an eye over the water level 24X7 during monsoon season. He asked people to report any kind of flood-related information to the control room so that rescue work could be initiated immediately. Mr. Gaind asked the officials to submit their flood management plan with his office on which a meeting will be held with the concerned officials.On the occasion, Exion Mr. Sandeep Goyal, Tehsildar Mr. Manjit Singh, Nayab Tehsildar Mr. Gurmeet Singh, SDO Mr. Surinder Kumra were present.
