Brahm Mohindra Exhorts Doctors To Join Hands In Eliminating Female Foeticide From Punjab

Punjab Local Bodies Minister Brahm Mohindra on Sunday exhorted the doctors to play a proactive role and join the hands with the government to eliminate social malady female foeticide from Punjab.Presiding over a workshop organized by Indian Radiological and Imaging Association Punjab in association with Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan in Punjab Institute of Medical Sciences, Mr Mohindra said that the state government is already strictly implementing the Pre Conception (PC) and Pre Natal Diagnostic Test (PNDT) Act but it needs the support of the doctors’ fraternity for improving the sex ratio in Punjab. Mohindra said that the decreased sex ratio is a serious blot on the face of the our society which is 895 girls against 1,000 boys presently and urged the doctors participating in the workshop, to pledge for increasing the sex ratio of girls more than boys in the next one year. Female feticide should be wiped out which is badly impacting male-female ration, he said.

He said that Punjab government is making concerted efforts to spread awareness against female foeticide and encouraging the people to celebrate the birth of girls as the girls have been proving their mettle in every field during these days.Later speaking to reporters, the minister said that he would soon visit all Municipal Corporations and would hold meetings with MPs, MLAs and Mayors and officials concern to review the ongoing projects in their areas.He told that Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh led Punjab government is committed for carrying out overall development of the state.He said that a comprehensive strategy is being prepared to expedite the developmental works in the cities.Mr Mohindra also appreciated the efforts of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association Punjab and Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan for holding this workshop for sensitizing about female foeticide.On this occasion, Police Commissioner Mr Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagha, District Family and Welfare Officer Dr Surinder Kumar, representatives of Indian Radiological and Imaging Association Punjab and Divya Jyoti Jagriti Sansthan were also present.
