To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse, the district administrationto organise a district-level function on June 26, to sensitise people and generating awareness amongst the public about the ill-effects of the drug abuse.Divulging the details, Deputy Commissioner Moga Sandeep Hans on Thursday, said that at the event where motivational speakers and rehabilitated youth will deliver speeches to encourage gathering to stay away from drug abuse on the other side Nukkad Nataks will highlight the adverse effects of the drug menace.Deputy Commissioner accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Moga AS Bajwa was holding a meeting with officials in this regard.Deputy Commissioner also directed SDMs to organise rallies and install hoardings in their respective sub-divisions to create awareness against drugs. He said that the district administration was already making concerted efforts to eradicate the drug menace but all those initiatives could fructify only if the people of the city come forward to eliminate this curse.SSP Bajwa while giving the information said that the massive crackdown on drug peddlers by the state government and large scale awareness programs like Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) have created so much awareness among the general public that the affected parents themselves started approaching them to get their child rehabilitated.“Apart from nabbing smugglers, our basic purpose to run the drive against drugs was to educate people and prevent them from falling into this prey,” he said.Meanwhile, in the meeting Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC Development) Rajinder Batra, Assistant Commissioner (General) Lal Viswash Bains, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) including Gurwinder Singh Johal (Moga), Mandeep Kaur (Nihal Singh Wala), Swaranjit Kaur (Baghapurana), Deputy Medical Commissioner SK Setia, District Sports Officer Balwant Singh, District Development and Panchayat Officer Jagtar Singh Sidhu and Guardian of Governance (GOG) District Coordinator Balkar Singh were also present.
