Two departments of Hepatology and Gastroenterology would be established soon in the Dr. Rajindra Parsad Government Medical College Tanda, Kangra to strengthen this Medical College to facilitate the patients of the region so that this Medical College could emerge as premier Medical College of the Country. This was stated by the Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur while addressing the ‘Connexus-2019’, the 17th Annual Inter College Carnival, Students Central Association Function at Dr. Rajindra Parsad Government Medical College Tanda Kangra yesterday evening. Chief Minister said that the State has six medical colleges in Government sector besides one private medical college. He said that apart from this, the Union Government has sanctioned an amount of Rs. 1300 crore for AIIMS in the State which was coming up in Bilaspur district. He said that now the need was to strengthen these existing health institutions. He said that the Union Government has launched Ayushmann Bharat Scheme, the world’s largest scheme covering about 50 crore people of the country. He said that the State Government has started HimCare Scheme to provide health cover to all those families that have not been covered under the Ayushmann Bharat Scheme. He said that a medical University was also coming up at Ner Chowk in Mandi to ensure quality medical education to the Medical Students in the State.Jai Ram Thakur said that about one and a half year tenure of the present State Government has been full of achievements and has ensured development of every area of the State. He said that the sole aim of the Government during this period has been balanced development of the State with special focus on those areas which has remained neglected so far. Chief Minister said that the primary role of young people is to get a good education in order to become better citizens of tomorrow. He said that they need to learn skills to do the job that their country’s economy needs. He said that the entire success of the nation depends on the youths. He said that the youth have the power to transform the nation into a better place. They also have the ability to lead their fellow citizens into the right direction as they are fighters, he added.

While appreciating the skit presented by the students regarding drug abuse and its vices by the students, Chief Minister said that it was unfortunate that drug epidemic continues to rage amongst youth of our nation which was an area of concern. He said that drugs have the potential to thwart the bright future of our nation. He urged the youth to fight this social vice by helping the young people to come out of the trapped in the vicious cycle of drug abuse.Jai Ram Thakur said that education, employment and empowerment were three key elements that contribute towards the progress of a nation and all these depends on how well our youth is educated and empowered. He said that it was important to channelize the energy and intelligence of youth in the right direction and provide them employment opportunities as per their potential or they may move to a wrong track in life.Chief Minister announced enhancement in stipend of MBBS students of the State from existing Rs. 15000 per month to Rs. 17000 per month. He also announced Rs. 1.50 crore for providing latest audio-video system in the Auditorium of the College. He said that posts of Radiographers would be filled soon and two buses would be provided to facilitate the students in the campus.  He said that Physiotherapy Department would be strengthened. Chief Minister announced Rs. 2 lakh for the students presenting cultural programme.Chief Minister also felicitated the academic achievers of the College on the occasion. He also distributed prizes to the winners of extra-curricular and sports events.

Earlier,  while interacting with the media on the sidelines of the Function,  Chief Minister said that the state government was committed for providing quality health facilities to the people of the State.  He said that all possible help would be provided to make Tanda Medical college a premier medical college of the state.  While replying to another question from the media,  Chief minister said that cabinet would be expended at appropriate time after due consideration.Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar said that the performances by the students of the college were par excellence and shows the creative talent of the students. He said that the State was committed to make Himachal Pradesh an ideal state of the country.Principal of the College Dr. Bhanu Awasthi while welcoming the Chief Minister gave detail about various achievements of the college. He said that the college has been ranked as 35th best college of the country and third in North India by India Today magazine, which was a matter pride for the students and faculty of this institution and also for the people of the State. SCA President Munish Pandit welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries present on the occasion. A colourful cultural programme was also presented by the medical students on the occasion. Newly elected MP Kangra and Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kishan Kapoor, Urban Development Minister Sarveen Chaudhary, MLA Nurpur Rakesh Pathania, MLA Nagrota Arun Kumar, MLA Batiyat Vikram Jaryal, MLA Jawali Arjun Thakur, Former MLAs Kangra Surinder and Sanjay Chaudhary, President State Basketball Federation Munish were present on the occasion among others.
