Health department celebrates world hypertension day

The district health department celebrated world hypertension day in Shaheed Babu Labh Singh Civil Hospital on Wednesday to create awareness about the hypertension.Addressing during the seminar, Civil Surgeon Dr Rajesh Kumar Bagga said that hypertension occurs when the arterial blood pressure of a person consistently elevate above than a certain level.Dr Bagga said that cardiovascular diseases are one of the greatest risk factors involved with hypertension and this can lead to severe health complications.  He said that this increases the risk of stroke, heart disease, and death which makes it one of top non-communicable, fatal diseases.The Civil Surgeon added that people must avoid fast food, fried food items as these are unhealthy due to the high amounts of fat, salt and calories. Over time, consumption of these foods lead to weight gain, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, he added.He said that this day aims at raising awareness and promoting hypertension prevention, detection and treatment.Dr Bagga said that each person must get his blood pressure examined daily and must take a balanced diet besides morning or evening walks, exercise, yoga must be included in the daily routine.District Family and Welfare Officer Dr Surinder Kumar highlighted the reproductive child health, anti-natal, post-natal and other issues.On the occasion, Assistant Health Officer Dr TP Singh, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr Harpreet Maan and others were present.
