Punjab rural and urban development minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa today slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being anti-Sikh, anti-Punjab and anti-Punjabis saying his government had  refused to sanction funds for 550th anniversary celebrations of founder of the Sikh Faith Guru Nanak Dev.He maintained the Modi government had not responded to several communications from the state government to release funds for this celebration that are being organised at the global level. A number of development projects have been planned  as part of these celebrations, especially in Sultanpur Lodhi, Batala and Dera Baba Nanak.“Guru Nanak Dev’s teachings are inclusive and humanistic irrespective caste, creed or regions. He preached love and brotherhood. However, here is the Prime Minister  whose attitude is characterised by brazen indifference”, Bajwa maintained. He recalled that the UPA government headed by Dr Manmohan Singh had sanctioned Rs 3100 crore as part of 300th anniversary celebrations of Gurta Gaddi Divas of Guru Granth Sahib for development projects in Nanded where the Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh passed on the Guruship to Guru Granth Sahib.Bajwa said the earlier NDA government under Atal Bihari Vajpayee had released Rs 100 crore in 1999 for the Khalsa tercentenary celebrations at Anandpur Sahib. He asserted the Punjab government was not dependent on the centre for these celebrations but the issue was of betrayal by Modi on this issue. He questioned 5-time chief minister and Akali Dal patron Parkash Singh Badal whether his party’s alliance with Modi’s BJP was only to benefit his family. He said Badal had been hailing Modi while he had ditched Punjab and the Sikhs on an issue that concerns the entire humanity. He alleged Badal had mortgaged interests of the Sikhs and Punjab to benefit his own family. He challenged Modi and Badal to list even one major benefit that had accrued to Punjab under the present dispensation.Bajwa pointed out that Modi had not sanctioned funds even for a single scheme recommended by the Punjab government and said Dr Manmohan Singh had never disappointed Badal.
