Punjab Congress president and party candidate from Gurdaspur Sunil Jakhar today sharpened the pitch saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi was raising the bogey of external  threat to cover up the divisive designs of his Bharatiya Janata Party and its mentor Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh.Addressing a party conference at the residence of BKU  national president and former MP Bhupinder Singh Mann, Jakhar said, “Modi is the worst divider since the British rule. The divide and rule policy of the British is now being  followed by the BJP-RSS to pose a serious threat to diverse social fabric of  the country. The RSS had collaborated with the British government in India going by the letters of  apology written by its guide V D Savarkar from Andaman Jail”.He maintained it was being talked about even six months before the election announcement  that after having failed  to perform, Modi would either bring in Pakistan narrative or play communal card.

He said the people in Gurdaspur  were now suspecting the intentions of Modi government on Kartarpur Sahib Corridor too as its completion in due time could come under  question mark under the given situation. The BKU reiterated its support to the Congress. Mann and its state president Gurdev Singh Mianpur slammed Modi as anti-farmer.Jakhar  lashed out at former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on the issue of police firing on Sikh protesters sitting on dharna at Behbal Kalan against desecration of Guru Granth Sahib  in October 2015.“All these years Badal has been deceiving people by posing as Panthic. This so called Panthic leader should share as to who ordered police firing on Sikhs  protesting against desecration of Guru Granth Sahib at Bargari. His son and another self-proclaimed Panthic leader Sukhbir Singh Badal was the deputy chief minister at that  time”, he added.Rural and Urban Development minister TRipt Rajinder Singh Bajwa and Cooperation Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also addressed the gathering.
