3 JeM militants responsible for attack on Srinagar police post arrested: Police

Jammu and Kashmir police on Sunday arrested three Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) operatives from Budgam's Wathora area. The trio was involved in the attack on a police post in Srinagar's Chanapora area on Friday this week. One police personnel had got injured in the firefight during the Chanapora attack.One Chinese pistol, 2 magazines and 6 live rounds were recovered from the three JeM militants identified as  Mushtaq, Junaid, and Latief.Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of police (SSP) Srinagar Haseeb Mughal said, "J&K Police has arrested 3 JeM militants from Wathora, Budgam. They carried out an attack on a police post in Chanpora, Srinagar last Friday. One Chinese pistol, 2 magazines, 6 live rounds recovered., further investigation underway."Based on digital evidence one of the suspects who was already on police radar was picked up after the Chanapora attack and during interrogation confessed and gave the police further details about the group.Giving details of the Chanapora attack, SSP Mughal said that one of the operatives - Junaid - first went inside the police post on the pretext of tracking the status of passport verification and then came back with Mustafa and opened fire at the lone sentry posted there."The militants also tried to snatch the rifle of the injured sentry but had to leave it because the gun was clamped with a chain to his belt. In the meantime, the other policemen fired and they fled from the spot," Mughal said. (PTK)
