Manish Tewari dares Akalis to name one farmer friendly scheme like loan waiver

Senior Congress leader and party candidate from Sri Anandpur Sahab parliamentary constituency, Manish Tewari today challenged the Shiormani Akali Dal and its candidate Prem Singh Chandumajra to name one single ‘farmer-friendly’ scheme that their government had launched in the ten years of rule in Punjab and five year rule in the centre, like the farmers debt waiver scheme launched by the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh under which the Rs 2 lakhs debt of small and marginal farmers was waived off and which came as a great relief to them.Addressing a series of public meetings in various villages of Sri Anandpur Sahab parliamentary constituency today, Tewari claimed that Punjab was the first state in the country where the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh launched farmers’ debt waiver scheme which was later followed by many other states, including some ruled by the BJP.The Congress leader said, the Akalis have always claimed themselves to be well wishers of the farmers but they actually did nothing to ameliorate their plight. He pointed out, the suicides by the debt ridden farmers were the maxium during the Akali regime and they never bothered to take any remedial measures.Tewari asked Chandumajra that instead of running a malicious campaign against him and the Congress party, he should tell the people of Shri Anandpur Sahab as why they should vote for him and what actually he had done for them in last five eyars. “You have been an MP for five years with your own government at the centre, tell us and the people of Shri Anandpur Sahab what you really did for this constituency during the last five years”, he asked Chandumajra, while adding, he just cannot go around and claiming that he spent the MPLAD funds in the constituency, a substantial part of which he actually diverted to his son’s assembly segment in Sanaur in Patiala parliamentary constituency.Appealing people for votes, Tewari urged them to confirm and cross check with the friends and relatives in Ludhiana where he had ushered in so many development projects. “I contested in Ludhiana for the first time in 2004 and for next ten years, I completely devoted myself to the service of the people there”, he said, while adding, he had got resumed the flights to Ludhiana airport, started a special Ludhiana Shatabadi train, got sanctioned Rs 1500 crores for the rural roads under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, got excise duty waiver on garment industry, got sanctioned an Apparel Park for garment industry and many more things.Tewari challenged Chandumajra, to name one such project he had got sanctioned for Shri Anandpur Sahab. “Let you elect me to the parliament and I will show you what an MP can actually do for his people in the constituency”, he urged people amidst thundering applause.
