In a bid to ensure massive participation of the voters
especially the youngsters and students during the ensuing Lok Sabha polls, the
Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder
Kumar Sharma today initiated signature campaign for soliciting the support of
youth for this noble cause from the local KMV College. Kicking off the campaign
by writing 'Proud to be a voter' along with his signatures, the Deputy
Commissioner, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Jasbir Singh,
said that the move was aimed at sensitizing the young voters to come forward
for strengthening the democracy at the grass root level. He said that the
students and youth could play a major role in further cementing the democratic
ethos in the country. Mr. Sharma said that this program under Systematic Voter
Education and Electoral Participation Program (SVEEP) could be instrumental in
making the young voters about their democratic rights.The Deputy Commissioner
said that the district administration would organize more such events in the
coming days to ensure that the message of ethical voting was conveyed to every
nook and corner of the district. He said that the hard earned right of vote
must not be wasted and youngsters must exercise it judiciously to strengthen
democracy at the grass root level.
Varinder Kumar Sharma said that as India was a youthful
nation with a sizeable chunk of its population above the age of 18 years it was
need of the hour to ensure that every youth registers himself as voter and cast
it sincerely, so that a new and progressive India could be carved out. The
Deputy Commissioner said that those youngsters who were eligible but have not
enrolled them as voters could apply for the vote till April 19th before the
polls. Mr. Sharma said that to facilitate the youth the Election Commission of
India has launched National Voter Services Portal (NVSP) and Voter Helpline
App). He said that the youth have to click the link www.nvsp.in for getting them registered as new
voters. Likewise, Mr. Sharma said that
the youth could also download Voter Helpline App from Google Play store in
their android phone for enrolling them as voters.Meanwhile, the students of KMV
College led by Principal Dr. Atima Sharma Diwedi were lined up from KMV College
to Doaba Chowk with placards in their hands to sensitize the voters. On the
occasion, Assistant SVEEP Coordinator Mr. Surjit Lal, Field Publicity Officer
Government of India Mr. Rajesh Baali, PRO OF KMV College Prof Madhu and others were also present.
