With a pledge to vote responsibly in upcoming Lok Sabha Elections, thousands of city residents took part in a “Moga Marathon a run for voters’ awareness” organised by the district administration in association with Department of Sports Punjab here on Sunday.Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans, who flagged-off the Moga Marathon also participated in the race and ran for about five kilometres during the run which was commenced from New Grain Market here. Star campaigners and prominent sportspersons from the district including Asian Games silver medalist Randeep Kaur and bronze medalist Bhagwan Singh also participated in the event. The marathon was held in two categories including Men and Women, in which men ran for 10 kilometres while women had covered five kilometres distance. The marathon culminated at The Learning Field School in Ghal Kalan.Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans conferred medals and handover cash prizes worth Rs 10,000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 to first runner up, second runner up and third runner up respectively in each category Men and Women.In men category, Vipan Kumar, Deepak Kumar and Raj Kumar, remained at first, second and third position respectively while in Women category Amandeep Kaur, Amandeep Kaur and Pooja Kumari bagged top positions.
Special prizes were also conferred to the youngest participants including Bhuvi and Anant from girls category, and Harjap Singh and Arnab from boys category while eldest participants Balwinder Kaur from women category and Surjit Singh Kaonke from Men category were also rewarded. Apart from this, all the participants were given T-shirts and refreshment.Addressing the gathering comprising of all walks of people, the Deputy Commissioner Sandeep Hans gave a loud and clear message, “Run for your Health, Vote for Country’s Health”.DC Sandeep Hans also expressed gratitude to the Nestle, Lions Club Royal Moga and The Learning Field School, who extended their fulsome support and cooperation for making this event a huge success. “The district administration would continue such endeavours and activities in future,” he said.Later, DC Sandeep Hans accompanied with other officials administered pledge to the gathering for exercising their franchise. Meanwhile, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC General) Anita Darshi, ADC Development Rajinder Batra, Assistant Commissioner (General) Lal Vishwas Bains, Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) including Gurwinder Singh Johal (Moga), Narinder Singh Dhaliwal (Dharamkot) and Swaranjit Kaur (Baghapurana) and District Sports Officer (DSO) Balwant Singh were among the prominent present on the occasion.
