District administration gears up for “Moga Marathon—a run for voters’ awareness”

With district administration of Moga is gearing up to hold “Moga Marathon a run for voters’ awareness” on Sunday, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC General) Anita Darshi on Friday, released the T-shirt for the participants taking part in the event.Releasing T-Shirts, ADC Anita Darshi said that this marathon is an initiative by the administration to disseminate the message of the right to vote among residents. “Vote is not only the right but it’s a responsibility, as the success of Indian democracy largely depends on how actively the voters of our country participate in the electoral process,” she said.ADC Anita Darshi was accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Lal Vishwas Bains, Sub-Divisional Magistrates from all sub-divisions including Gurwinder Singh Johal from Moga, Narinder Singh Dhaliwal from Dharamkot, Dr Mandeep Kaur from Nihal Singh Wala and Swarnjeet Kaur from Baghapurana while District Sports Officer Balwant Singh and a representative from Nestle, BS Bhullar were also present.Divulging more details, she said that the marathon will be held in two categories including Men and Women, where men will run for 10 kilometres, similarly, women will cover 5 kilometres distance.According to the route plan, the marathon would commence from New Grain Market here at 7 am and will culminate at Learning Field School Ghal Kalan. Where Women will reach the endpoint by taking a U-turn from ISF College on the other side, men participants will have to take a U-turn from LLRM College to reach the endpoint.

Every participant will be handed over a token after reaching the U-turn and participants, who will show tokens after completing the marathon will be considered eligible.ADC Anita Darshi further said that in each category the winners— first runner up, second runner up and third runner up will get a cash prize of Rs 10000, Rs 5000 and Rs 3000 respectively. “A special prize will be conferred to the youngest and eldest person, participated in the marathon while every participant will get participation certificates,” she added.She said that prominent sportspersons from the district including Asian Games gold medalist Tajinder Pal Singh Toor, silver medalist Randeep Kaur and bronze medalist Bhagwan Singh would take part in the marathon.DSO Balwant Singh said that elaborate arrangements would be made by the district administration for this mega event and at least seven refreshment points at distance of every 1.5 kilometres— would be established for the participants. He said that two mobile medical teams and one stationed medical team will be there to handle any kind of medical emergency while elaborate security arrangements will also be made by the district police.Meanwhile, anyone interested to participate in this event can register himself/herself at the district sports office while on the spot registration facility would also be provided in the grain market on Sunday morning.
