Commissioner of Police Jalandhar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar today directed the officers of the Police department to pull up their socks for ensuring free, fair and peaceful polls during the upcoming general elections.Presiding over a review meeting with the officers of the department here today, the Commissioner of Police said that the Jalandhar Commissionerate Police would ensure elaborate security arrangements for these elections. He directed the officers minutely look into all the arrangements involved in the election process to ensure that polling was concluded in a free, fair and peaceful manner. Mr. Bhullar said that any sort of laxity in performing the duty was totally unwarranted and undesirable.The Commissioner of Police asked the Police Officers to ensure complete synchronization with their civil counterparts for performing their election duty diligently. He said that the duties pertaining to implementation of Cvigil, Flying Squad Teams, Static Surveillance Teams and others were formed with active participation of civil officers. Mr. Bhullar said that besides this due attention must be paid for maintaining law and order in the Commissionerate Police.The Commissioner of Police categorically asked the officers to ensure that no one takes the law in their hand during the elections. He said that anyone trying to disturb the peaceful conduct of this by-election should be dealt sternly as per the law. Mr. Bhullar also asked the officers to ensure that strict vigil was kept on the anti-social elements through the patrolling parties of Police deployed across the district.Likewise, the Commissioner of Police also asked the Police officers to install special nakas/ check points under their jurisdiction for maintaining law and order. He said that the district Police must uphold the glorious tradition of conducting free and fair elections in a peaceful atmosphere across the district. Mr. Bhullar said that Police officers must ensure that every eligible voter was able to cast his vote freely thereby strengthening the democracy as grass root level.
