Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Mr. Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal today said that exhorted the political parties to extend fulsome support and cooperation to the district administration for conducting free, fair and transparent elections.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police today held detailed parleys with the representatives of the different political parties during which they assured them that the district administration was duty-bound to ensure smooth and hassle free polling process in Jalandhar. They apprised the political parties that elaborate arrangement have been put at place in Jalandhar by the administration for this purpose. The officers said that no stone would be left unturned for ensuring that free and fair election process was completed in the district.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that there were 1863 booths across the district and total number of voters in district were 15.74 lakh. They said that out of this  8.22 lakh voters were male, 7.52 lakh voters were female and 23 were third gender voters. They said that elections would be held on May 19 and counting of votes would be held on May 23.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that notification in this regard would be issued on April 22 and last date for filing nominations was April 29. They said that scrutiny of nominations would be held on April 30 and last date for withdrawal was May 2. They said that for ensuring strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in letter and spirit directions had already been issued to all the officers/ officials.

Sharing the detail regarding various IT application introduced by Election Commission of India (ECI), the Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that a revolutionary C-Vigil app has been launched to enable the citizens to complaint against violation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) or any corrupt practices. They said that all Complaint registered on this android App would be resolved within 100 minutes.They said that another IT App initiative Suvidha has been developed for the candidates adding that it was single window for various permissions required during the Elections and would be dealt on line within 24 hours.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police said that the administration was committed to ensure free, fair and peaceful polls in the district. They said that screening Committee, Media Certification and Monitoring Committee, Vehicle Management teams, Expenditure Monitoring Committee, Model Code of Conduct Teams, Video Viewing Teams and Accounting teams have been constituted in the district to check the misuse of money power, liquor and narcotics. They also said that adequate security forces will be deployed for conducting free and fair electoral process in the state.The Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner of Police and Senior Superintendent of Police further said that political parties must avoid any such campaign which incites mutual hatred adding that no religious place should be used for campaigning. Likewise, they said that posters of the political rivals should not be torn and protest against each other would not be allowed. They said that the venue and time of the political rallies and processions must be informed well in advance to avoid any sort of clash enroute.On the occasion, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mr. Kulwant Singh and other officers were also present.
