Three days long Handwara gunfight ends

Two militants, five security personnel, one civilian killed

Handwara gunfight that started on March 1 was ended this afternoon with killing of two unidentified militants and five security forces personnel while as around ten have sustained injuries.Bodies of slain militants have been recovered but are yet to be identified.On Friday evening, a militant acted as dead and when forces came near him, he fired indiscriminately killing four personnel including a CRPF inspector and two Jammu and Kashmir Policemen and injuring almost eleven among which one more CRPF personnel succumbed to injuries this morning.The gunfight started on March 1 when joint team of government forces that include 22RR of Army, SOG of Police and CRPF who were searching in the area reached a suspected place from where hiding militants fired upon search party.Clashes erupted near the encounter site on Friday during which many youth sustained injuries and among them a youth succumbed to injuries. The slain youth was identified as Waseem Ahmad.The gunfight finally ended with killing of two militants, five security personnel and a civilian while as three houses , three cowsheds and a tinted suffered damage.  (PTK)
