The construction of Government Degree College in Roshanwala village of Bhawanigarh block in Sangrur would be complete by the year end, informed Vijayinder Singla PWD Minister Punjab. Paying a surprise visit at construction site of the College in during the third day of 'Sangrur Vikas Yatra', the Minister reviewed the progress of the construction work.Invincing special interest in the quality of the material being used, the Minister who himself is an engineering graduate checked the strength of the concrete blocks in the Compression Testing Machine. Being satisfied with the results, Singla said that "quality is the substratum of all construction activity being undertaken by the State PWD department." He said that on an average the strength of a concrete block of 15cm*15cm*15*cm size is expected to be 25 Newton/mm2, after 28 days of curing and the spot testing results showed the strength of such a block to be 30 N/mm2 which was better than the required strength.Divulging into details, he said that the project entails an expenditure of Rs.14 crore. The college building is being constructed in 7 acres and the work comprises construction of a double storey Science Block and a double storey Arts block, single storey Administrative Block, a multipurpose Hall, a Canteen, Athelitics track and Basket ball as well as Volleyball grounds.The covered area of the first floor is 39200 sqft and that of second floor is 19000sqft. The building will house 17 classrooms, 5 science and computer labs, a library, a committee room and 2 staff rooms besides washrooms and common rooms.The work is in full swing and would be ready to use by 550th Prakash Purab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji , he informed .During the third day of the Yatra, Singla interacted with villagers to get the first hand information on the percoclation of benefits of various welfare schemes being run by the State Government and also disbursed grants worth approximately Rs. 60 Lacs during the visit of 7 villages, under various heads.
